Message Tray

I got inspired from the wonderful site called: {Shell's Shabby Shack} Shelly is so talented and very creative. I loved how she said, "Everything looks better with a tray!" because I couldn't agree with her more. So I decided to give it a try.

Step One:
1. Buy a tray! I got this for $1.99 at Goodwill and it needed some cleaning but I loved the price and the chunky legs which you can not see.
Step two:
2. Tape the edges and paint with chalkboard paint. I got the spray paint version for $5.99 at Michaels.
{I just used clear wrapping tape since I don't have blue painters tape and it worked fine:0}

3. Display for everyone to see:)

 I want to {Give Thanks} to Shelly's wonderful ideas!

Paper flowers

Paper Flower Wreath
The other day I was playing around on some blogs and I found this tutorial on Take Heart blog by Danielle Burkleo on how to make felt flowers. Instead of felt I used paper from old books, a Restoration Hardware catalog and old music sheets. I love how you can use any kind of paper and it turns out great.

Supplies: glue, .99 cent paper wreath, paper, glue gun, scissors

Step One: Cut paper in strips and wrap around wreath and attach with glue

Step two: Create flowers
Cut a square then round the corners
After you cut the paper in a square then round the edges you need to cut the paper in a spiral. You do not need to measure the paper so that it is a perfect square. They all turn out great:) Cut from the  outside to the middle to make a spiral.
Then you roll from the outside in and then add glue to the bottom of flower to keep it in place. I made a bunch before attaching them to the wreath.

I also went to youtube.com and typed in

"Spiral Paper Rose Tutorial"

URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiB3soNy4e8&feature=related

It is a great video I found to show how to make the spiral roses. Thank you Jennie for making this easy to follow video.

Paper flowers in all sizes

Step 4: Attach flowers to the wreath with glue gun

I also made cards for all of Carter's preschool teachers:)

Are you inspired to make your own flowers?

Mod Podge Bible Pumpkin

Sitting on our family room mantel

Last week my Mops group (mother's of preschooler's) went to a local pumpkin patch where the kids picked their own pumpkins, rode a hay ride and took an adventure in the corn maze. Yes, there were only two moms and seven kids in this corn maze. I carried Landon almost the whole time and it didn't help it was 8o degrees outside. But the kids had a blast and us mom's survived:) As I came home I wanted to display the little pumpkins the kids picked but needed to add something bigger to put on the mantel.

Some inspiration pictures for this project! I'm one proud mom:)

Landon Pumpkin
I decieded to Modge Podge a plastic pumpkin that we had laying around the house. I took an old bible verse scripture book, Mod Podge, a paint brush, and a plastic pumpkin then Mod Podged away!

Cut out the verses

No particular pattern paint verses on

An inspiration for us all!

Not only did it turn out so cute but I love the daily reminder about what is important in life which is our relationship with Jesus Christ!

Old book project

Decorating on a budget is hard but sometimes all you need is some inspiration. While sipping my pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks my friend Melissa and I went to browse some shops. My inspiration for this project came from Restoration Hardware. I saw these antiqued uncovered book bundles for $29 and thought I can do that!

So here I go with my old book project!
I picked books that inspire me and have a good spine
I just tore the covers off. Then I used some twine I had for wrapping gifts and place them under my living room end table.
There is my antique book look that cost me nothing!

Chalk Board Sign

Loving my new sign!
I found my inspiration for this sign at Red Letter Words- Faith Inspired Art. I made this sign but I still would love to own one like the Fruit of the Spirit sign. It is on my Christmas wish list:)

Supplies:
1. Chalk Board paint spray
2. Scrap wood- This piece was 51 cents....yes CENTS at Lowes
3. White paint
4. Paint Brush
Scrap wood at Lowe's

This stuff works great!
Step 1: Spray the wood piece
Step 2: Cover your painted wood with real chalk. Then erase off the chalk and you will have a chalk board look
Step 3: Cut out your saying from a word document and then trace the letters on the board
Letter's cut out form a word document
Step 4: Paint letters on board with white paint. This was the first time I really painted so I think with practice and maybe with better brushes I can have cleaner lines. I just had cheap 99 cent brushes.
Step 5: Sand down all the letters to give a vintage look
All done and in my laundry room!

Step: Put up you sign. I placed mine in our laundry room:)
